FOOD BASKETS - ELDERLY PROGRAM

Food Basket Project: Currently we have over 100 households of elderly people that we are working with in village of Kayunga. We do give out food baskets(hampers) to these needy families, mosquito nets, and other house hold items to use. There is a great need out here of supporting the elderly people. Our government has not done much to support them so its through organizations like we who extend a hand to these kind of people in various communities.

Due to the alarming conditions of people in Bukku Village, Wind of victory - Uganda through friends and welwishers are extending a great hand towards improving the living standards of the people in this village. Bukku village is a rural area located along kayuga road, Bukwie District, its 28Km behind Mabira Forest and the village is divided in to counties; i.e. Biiya 1 and Biiya 2.

The following are the most challenges that are affecting the people of Bukku Village;

  1. Famine: This is a common problem because the land does not favor growing of cereals which they could use for their consumption. Hence a lot of families are suffering for starvation leaving most of the children malnourished.

  2. Poor Sanitation: Most people are living under poor standards thus most live under grass thatched huts, mud houses which make them so dirty and unclean all time. The families in the village lack toilets and bathrooms.

  3. Early Marriage: Due to no jobs and increased rate of child birth amongst these families, this has forced most parents to send their young girls into marriage at early age (12 -14)….this has led to increased number of children out competing the adults in the village.

  4. Health Problems: Most families are eaten up by jiggers in their feet’s, hands and this has made them incapable of doing anything and also leading to others affections in their lives. Also the problem of malaria is at a rampant rate because none of the people sleep under mosquito nets.

  5. Unemployment: Due to lack of no jobs, the majority of the people do not have what to do hence increasing insecurity in the village. Most youth have joined bad groups due peer pressure like gambling, taking marijuana and tobacco.

  6. Poor water drainage: In this village the people are sharing the wells with animals for water to use at their homesteads. They do not have tap water which has led to increased health issues like water borne diseases (Biriherzia).

Community Empowerment Program:

Widows, single mothers, widowers and the youth at large are trained in Business courses so as to equip and empower them with skills that can help them to survive with their families. The classes have done a great impact in so many people's lives and we have seen many giving testimonies. Every Year we conduct 4 classes in various communities and we humbly request for support for this program too so that many can be equipped with the skills of business hence enable them to sustain their families.

Each Class costs 300.00$ for the period of 3 months. This fee includes the funds that facilitates the after test project when the class is done.
